SOCIAL DANCING VS. COMPETITION DANCING

Social dancing vs. competition dancing. There is an important word here--social. Learn to dance and fun, friends, and fitness is right around the corner. My current favorite dance partner will tell you that he recalls the time when I had many partners; the more the merrier! Young people, "middle people", and especially seniors love to have a dance partner so they can enjoy social dancing as a fabulous pastime. There are countless reasons why social ballroom dancing is the best way to learn.

Social dancing utilizes the "lead and follow" we learn when we learn the various dances; competition dancing consists of choreographed routines the dancers memorize. We have always loved "free style" dancing using the "lead and follow" technique because we can do what we want to when we want to in any order. Social dancing is just more fun!

DANG! MY FAVORITE DANCER ELIMINATED

Just kidding, it was time for Wayne to go before this, but who am I? And I think the young boxer should be next, but then again, who amI? Who am I?

Well, I am the one who asks you to look at my website www.bestballroomdance.com because I have been dancing for quite a while (all the dances except pasa dobles, which is my least favorite of all) and the voting has not reflected the couples who were dancing the best and the worst. I hope now fairness will begin. Why do they put so many couples on? It would be more entertaining if each couple had to do each dance, like they do in real dance competitions.

Evidently, other reasoning from ABC is calling the shots to do what they consider will up the ratings, but honestly, I am not sure I will watch the show next season. My favorite is still Jane and I hope she places well, if not win, and that may be a possibility, whoknows? With the voting being ….strange…..like it is this year. It’s just a who knows? Bye bye and keep dancing! Real social dancing can change your life, it happened to me.

DWTS...another WHEW! scraped by AGAIN

Sunday is sure busy on the web.
Anyway, yes, some of our beloved stars scraped by, though I don't understand how...really weird. Actually the show was such a hit I guess I don't understand why they think they need more ratings. I want to watch if they are really going to do the show the way they used to. Mistakes are always made, but THIS TIME the show is changing -- I mean I just think good dancing is fun to watch, but I didn't tune in to watch singers or even to watch the pros do their choreography.....we can get that when we watch the ballroom championships.

We will see, but the subject of having the seniors on is still on my mind....not too sure if that is right....then the voting is for who you like the most, not the best dancer. Yes, Marie Osmond is a mormon, but the young boxer is black, these things shouldn't make a bit of difference in the voting. I will vote for the best dancer, in my opinion, period.

It has been impossible to vote so far this season though--cannot logon and cannot use the telephone. I guess ABC is just voting FOR us--since we cannot vote. Really, thogh I wonder what Wayne thinks when he watches the shows after and sees all the talent? hmmmmmm

Senior Dancers on DWTS

Why DO they include seniors?
Hello all
Why are they including seniors in the show? I love seniors, but I think it is a bit cruel to even ask them to compete against these 20 "somethings" athletes or athlete types. I mean, really!!! Truthfully, as fierce as this competition is getting with the choreography being so demanding physically, it seems a bit odd. Maybe ABC thinks it will improve their viewer ratings to have seniors on, but let's face it--what senior could dance with the power that "cheetah" girl does? (I don''t know her name, but she is GOOD-I'm a ballroom dancer so I know). This time I truly believe that Wayne, as much as I love him, should have been eliminated, but
things are going a bit "funny". Maybe a billion of his fans called in and turned the tide. Anyway, I don't care whether the judges said Jane Seymour's mambo was an "English mambo" or not--SHE DID GOOD!!! I hope she will choose to continue. bye bye L.Jeannie

Ballroom Dancing Talk

Good evening,
Can you believe October is really here? The good thing about Fall is that it is the beginning of the "dancing" season. Since my blog title is Ballroom Dancing Talk, it reminds me that this is a great time for people who have always wanted to try, but figured that dancing was something they were not going to be good at--this is a great time to get started.
What a positive change it can bring to your life! You will want to do some Ballroom Dancing Talk so often you will surprise yourself. I promise you will love it. Rememer that movie from ancient times called "Dirty Dancing"? They were dancing the mambo. Dance shoes can be any shoe you want, but I will tell you from experience, shoes made specifically for dancing will do so much to help you look and feel better out there on the floor. I highly recommend dance shoes as opposed to using regular street shoes.
My Ballroom Dancing Talk blog gives me the opportunity to tell you that mambo is my favorite faster latin dance. I love it and you will, too. bye bye L. Jeannie

You know me--it is DWTS again!

Those dancers!
Since men have won every season but one, I'm interested in knowing--will it be a man this time again or a woman? http://www.bestballroomdance.com I think the men won possibly because they were doing such athletic aerial type move executions. Maybe one of these high energy ladies will win. I still have a soft spot for Jane Seymour and even if she doesn't win, she will be my winner. (oh, how gooey I sound!) Keep dancing ! I must say a few of the dancers are, well,...

Wow--what a an exciting premiere

TONIGHT'S PREMIERE OF DANCING WITH THE STARS

The pros are doing some great choreography here and the women (except the first one) all did a good job. The Fox Trot is actually a harder dance to get get good ratings in when you are in a competition and my favorite female dancer tonight was Jane Seymour. Truthfully, I could see a lot of poise and confidence in her routine,http.www.bestballrooomdance.com and it is my experienced opinion some of that came from her ballet work as a little girl. Amazing what that kind of experience can bring to learning ballroom dancing. I have seen it many times before.
I hope she either wins or places well.
Since I dance myself (I am not an instructor but have danced for years) I suppose I see the show a bit differently than some. I look at the technique, the footwork (footwork is important) the styling and of course the authenticity of the dance. They were all having fun tonite, weren't they? Or at least that is how they made it look. I love dancing. bye bye Jeannie

IN THE DANCING MOOD

Hello again,
Last time I titled my post In The Mood because I was thinking about that great (our favorite) swing tune that Glenn Miller wrote "In The Mood". 6 minutes of great swing music. anyway last time I got carried away telling you about my friend the "dance man".

I have not posted for a few days and I have missed it and I have not danced and that is not good either. Dancing is an automatic "attitude adjustment" as I call it. An automatic mood elevator. If you are just starting you will soon see what I mean, if you have not already noticed it.

We have a great dance floor that we built (it is a "floating" dance floor) in our basement and then we decorated the rather large room as a 50's diner and put up a wall of mirrors. We have had some great parties there and it is a great place to practice. I will soon be adding a page to my web site explaining in detail how to build just such a floor. If you would like to see a photo of the floor please visit: http://www.bestballroomdance.com/sockhop.php

Do you swing dance? west coast swing? jitterbug? east coast swing (or triple time swing)? Please let me know all your dance interests. bye for now. Jeannie

IN THE MOOD

Friday evening,
I can't believe Friday is here already. I talked to one of my favorite dance instructors yesterday; he is also a good friend. What a great dancer he is! www.bestballroomdance.com Here is how you know when a man is a good dancer (tip) no matter what dance he asks you to dance with him, he is a smooth dancer (moves with the beat) AND he can lead you into any move, whether you've performed it before or not. That is the kind of dancer my friend is. What a blast it is to dance with him.
Hope you all are doing well. I am tired -- I am at the computer late again tonite so I must go. I have two little dachschunds that need medicine tonight.
Why don't you think about when and where you will go dancing soon? It is starting into the season where dancing is an activity people get more interested in. bye bye Jeannie

Dancing is FABULOUS

Good Morning!
First of all my favorite dance is the waltz because of its gracefulness and beauty. It is considered a smooth dance. I met my hubby at a dance when he asked me to waltz. He is a very good dancer, by the way. We both consider dancing a hobby, we even have a large dance floor in our basement. Do you dance? Which is your favorite?
http://landjcranor.omnisitebuilder.com/waltzsteps.php
I missed logging on yesterday--I went to the gym to get my swim laps in--another hobby I guess you could say. My shoulders are not good. No rotator cuffs and no way to fix them plus I have a titanium implant shoulder, so the swim laps I do are kicking, which is obviously good for the legs. Fun though, I do love the water.
So please let me know what you like about dancing. It has so many wonderful aspects.
Bye
Jeannie
